ESL Program Information for Instructors

Size of Program	Large - Serves approximately 25,000 adult students a year at 6 different campuses in San Diego and numerous off site locations in the community:(Approximately 250 ESL instructors)
Areas Served	Mid City Campus (City Heights area) North City Campus ( Miramar and Linda Vista ) ECC Campus ( Southeast San Diego) Cesar Chavez Campus ( under the Coronado bridge) Centre City Campus ( Downtown, San Diego) West City Campus ( Point Loma / Clairemont)
Student Population	23 countries represented with 100 or more students Mexico - 47% Vietnam - 8% Somalia - 4%
Minimum Qualifications to teach	See attached. Standard minimum qualifications for non-credit community college programs.
Employment positions	Part time - maximum number of hours assigned per week 14.75. Contract positions rarely opened
Benefits	Health insurance not provided to part time instructors at the present time.
Salary	Starting hourly rate for part time instructors: Approximately $31- $37 an hour depending on education (MA, etc.)
Procedure for applying for a teaching position	Request an adjunct teaching application from any of the campuses or the ESL Resource Office, 4343 Ocean View Blvd., San Diego, CA 92113. Phone Number: 619-388-4941 Send copies of transcripts and application to address on the application. After application is screened for minimum educational qualifications by ESL Committee, applicant receives a letter. If applicant meets the minimum qualifications, he or she is requested to contact the ESL Resource Office to set up a demonstration lesson (teaching for 20 minutes in a beginning level classroom demonstrating an appropriate technique). After passing the demonstration lesson, the applicant is placed in the pool and can be hired as a substitute or instructor at any of the 6 campuses.
