Students with disabilities in higher education receive the support of Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.
This legislation mandates federally funded colleges and universities to provide students with disabilities the same access to education as their non-disabled peers.
The Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS) mission is to offer a variety of classes and services designed to facilitate the success of students with disabilities in reaching their educational, personal and vocational goals.
Eligible students who have a verified disability qualify for support services through DSPS. Support services and assistive equipment are offered to enable students to participate as fully as possible in Continuing Education classes and programs. Accommodations are determined with the counselor on an individualized basis, and provision may take a minimum of two weeks or longer.
DSPS classes are available for students who desire more individualized and adapted instruction.
